They are also known as outstanding blacksmiths and warriors. Usually, developers would give them features of Scandinavians or Celts, while they may look stocky and strong with thick beards. After the incredible success of such type of games, dwarves often began to appear as a game race. The gaming industry greatly influenced the subsequent image of dwarves, in particular, genres like role-playing games which was inspired by older board games like Dungeon and Dragons. Dwarves can be both forces of great reward and also tyrants that severely punish for indifference. Often their main features are being treacherous, crafty, and skilled in magic. They can be both positive and negative characters. In literature, dwarves are represented from different points of view. Along with such creatures as elves, goblins, trolls, and others, they are popular characters from the fantasy genre in literature, cinema, and video games. They are known to wear beards, be wealthy, and have fine schools of craftsmanship. For example, “gnomes” in Russian, "krasnoludek" in Polish, etc. In different languages, they are usually known under different names. They may or may not feature little red hats. They can be found in fairytales, legends, and some times as yard decorations. Their origin is from Germanic and Scandinavian mythology.

I’m never letting goblins get past my front gate again.Dwarves are little human-shaped people that dwell in mountains and in the earth below. He also managed to kill a military squad and a few miners down below. He didn’t take down my entire fortress, but he managed to make that entire floor useless (the river was constantly pouring into it, and the force of the water was far too powerful for any dwarfs to fight). Yes, he was killed, but I think he died a happy goblin, and maybe a hero. They weren’t complete yet! The water wasn’t set up to go straight into the chambers, but instead straight into my fortress! While my military was slaughtering the main group of goblins, one snuck past my defenses, went downstairs, completely ignoring everything, and went straight to the lever I had to flood the chambers. I’d say they knew they stood no chance against my military, so they pulled the most crafty feat I have ever seen in Dwarf Fortress. Well, in the middle of building one of these, a goblin party invaded. At the time, I was dealing with many raids from goblins, so I decided to get creative and make some torture chambers (the idea was I would put the goblins in there, pull a lever, and water would flood in). I had a large, prosperous fortress, complete with bridges, motes, barricades, and a large, formidable military. I had never known how crafty goblins could be until this event. Prologue: I made a monument to honor him later on, for he died…so others could prosper. I told one of my dwarfs to start the pumping, and…he was knocked back with such force by the pumped water that he hit the wall and was killed instantly by the blow. I quickly built a carpenter’s workshop to create the parts, dug out a tunnel from the river to the farm room, and was ready. So I used some ingenuity and my recently acquired knowledge of pumps, and decided to irrigate a room from the nearby river. The only thing it didn’t have was something good to make a farm on. So on day I started a new fortress in a wonderful little location it had a river, a great mountainside, and stone. (If you have a story of your own, I would love to hear it and feature it! Just send it as a comment or as feedback!)
